Can I deduct the costs for childcare from my taxes?

Yes, in some cases you can claim the costs of childcare on your tax return.

Childminder or nanny
If you have your children looked after by a childminder or nanny, you can deduct the actual childcare costs from your tax return. Important: Make sure you conclude an employment contract with your nanny or childminder.

Babysitter
Childcare costs incurred by a babysitter can be deducted if they are incurred due to employment, education, professional training or illness/accident/disability. You must be able to provide the tax authorities with clear evidence of this. If the babysitter is used for childcare in order to go out in the evening or pursue other leisure activities, this cannot be deducted from tax.

In order to deduct the costs of childcare from your tax bill, you must enclose the relevant receipts, e.g. the wage transfers to the nanny.
